5 Reasons to Attend the San Diego Brain Injury Foundation HeadStrong Walk
Brain injuries are often isolating, so it’s important TBI survivors connect with others with shared experiences. The San Diego Brain Injury Foundation hosts its annual HeadStrong Walk event held in San Diego, California each March. The event raises awareness and funds for brain injury survivors and their families. HeadStrong includes a 5K walk and a festival with food, music, and vendor booths. I gain so much every time I attend the event. Here are just a few examples of the benefits participating in an event like HeadStrong offers.
1. Support your fellow brain injury warriors
The HeadStrong Walk is organized by the San Diego Brain Injury Foundation. This non-profit organization provides resources, support, and advocacy for individuals with brain injuries and their families. The foundation works to improve the quality of life for brain injury survivors and increase public awareness about brain injury prevention and treatment.
By participating in the event, you’re giving back to your community in a really special way.
2. Include your friends and family in a brain injury event
The HeadStrong Walk is open to people of all ages and abilities, including those with brain injuries, their families, and supporters. Booths are set up to provide participants with free food and educational material on brain health awareness. Overall, it’s a fantastic excuse to get out with kids, partners, or friends while helping them understand your condition a bit better.
3. Regain your confidence and voice
It can be really tough opening up to others about your trauma and experiences. The SDBIF HeadStrong Walk puts you alongside hundreds of people in your area that are going through very similar things. You may not only meet new friends, but you’ll also start regaining your social confidence.
4. Move your body
One of the best, if not obvious, things you can do for your brain is strengthening your body. In addition to the 5k, you can also participate in warm-up stretching activities to get the most of our experience.
5. Promote brain injury awareness by wearing the HeadStrong T-shirt
Participants can register individually or as part of a team and are encouraged to fundraise to support the foundation’s programs and services. Either way, you’ll be able to pick up your own shirt to commemorate your time at the event and show support to the foundation.
